Born in 1932 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada, Ruth Lor Malloy was an adventurous journalist, writer, and activist. She was a prominent figure in fighting against racial discrimination in Ontario in the 1950s. In 1973, she published the first English-language guidebook to China and continued to produce a dozen editions until 2002, hoping to help the world understand that country. Throughout her writing career, Malloy worked to foster intercultural dialogue and justice for marginalized groups. In India, she helped a despised group of transgender sex workers gain respect. As she researched her books in China and Mongolia, she also collected antique boots for museums in Canada. For more information: www.ruthlormalloy.com.
