A Call to Obedience

The Illuminate Study Guide is a packet inluding a copy of the Illuminate booklet for study participants and a four-page leaflet of supplemental material for each lesson. Study goals, discussion questions, and lesson application along with the supplemental commentary provide useful tools for the study leader.

Obedience seems to be a central theme in Israel’s transition to monarchy—especially in the anointing and later rejection of King Saul as the man to lead. Samuel was an obedient servant of God, as was King David apart from his flagrant disobedience in regard to Bathsheba and Uriah. This series of studies from the books of 1 and 2 Samuel begins with the birth of Samuel and concludes with the victory of King David’s army over the rebellion launched by Absalom.
