Luke’s gospel has been called by someone: “the best book in the world.” It’s “the greatest story every told,” crafted by an excellent historian who used some of the finest Greek in the New Testament. This gospel is unique in many respects.

- It was written for an educated Gentile audience,

- It contains events and teachings in Christ’s life that are not recorded elsewhere—parables like the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, the Rich Man and Lazarus, the Pharisee and the Publican, the Christmas story in great detail, and the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, to cite just a few, and

- It gives more emphasis than any other gospel to women, the poor, and others marginalized by society.
