As a young man, Hudson Taylor, the great missionary pioneer in China, was converted after reading a gospel tract on the finished work of Christ. His question was: "If the whole work was finished, and the whole debt was paid upon the cross, what is left for me to do?" Then he said, "There dawned upon me the joyous conviction that there was nothing in the world to be done but to fall upon my knees, accept the Savior and praise him for evermore."

The book of Hebrews is all about the finished work of Christ and how our Lord's death on the cross perfectly fulfills the entire Old Testament sacrificial system. One objective in this series to provide a solid biblical basis for the Quaker understanding of how the finished work of Christ fulfills all types and symbols in the Old Covenant and renders rituals and ceremonies like water baptism and the Eucharist unnecessary, either for salvation or for faithful obedience to the revealed will of God.
