Chronic Church Problems

The Illuminate Study Guide is a packet inluding a copy of the Illuminate booklet for study participants and a four-page leaflet of supplemental material for each lesson. Study goals, discussion questions, and lesson application along with the supplemental commentary provide useful tools for the study leader.

Most of us know the church at Corinth as "the problem church." Paul, the founding pastor, must have shed many tears and offered up a host of prayers to the Lord for a church that seemed shot-through with pride, status, dissension, sexual immorality, and other problems. While Paul had words of praise for the church at Thessalonica, there were also problems and theolgical missunderstandings in that church. Again, the parameters for each unit of study narrows our focus and means that portions of these letters such as the rich teaching from Paul on ministry in 2 Corinthians 2-6 could not be included. As you study these epistles, notice how contemorary Paul's teaching really is.
